Frequently Asked Questions

How much is this going to cost?

To be a member of Alpha Sigma Tau, and any sorority/fraternity in general, one has to pay dues and fees. The semester you receive a bid, you will have to pay a New Member Fee of $55 and an Initiation Fee of $160.  You will also pay $70 for a badge that you will recieve at initiation. The semester after you are initiated, you will pay $300 in dues - $63.10 of which will go to our National Headquarters. If you have any questions/concerns about this, please contact our Vice President of Finance, Libby Osborne.

Does your sorority haze?

Alpha Sigma Tau does not haze; the sorority is strictly against hazing and so is Rhode Island College. We believe in making relationships with women on campus through positive and enjoyable experiences. We do not mentally, physically or emotionally degrade new members. To do so would work against the ties of sisterhood that we aim to create  and share with each other.

Will joining a sorority hurt my grades?

As long as you are dedicated to school work, joining Alpha Sigma Tau will not negatively affect your grades. In fact, the Director of Academic Success of our chapter is dedicated to making sure that our women keep up with their school work an maintain a 2.5 GPA. If you are struggling, we will ensure that you recieve the help you need to keep your grades up!

What is the time commitment?

As a new member, you will be attending a New Member Education Program which is an hour long once a week (usually about six week span). Once initiated, you will attend Chapter Meetings which are held on Sundays at 7:30pm. You will also be required to attend recruitment events, philanthropy events, and rituals. There will also be social events that aren't mandatory but suggested.
